No stranger to the Totalsports Women’s Race, Tayla Kavanagh is excited to compete on home soil when the iconic event returns to Durban on Sunday, 03 August 2025.
The first in a three-part series held annually in August, the Totalsports Women’s Race Durban features a fast and flat course – perfect for runners aiming to set personal bests (PBs).
Kavanagh, a familiar face at the event, is especially excited to compete in her hometown.
“I love racing in Durban,” says Kavanagh. “Having the Totalsports Women’s Race in Durban is a wonderful way to celebrate women. Seeing so many women come together to run through the streets of Durban is a powerful reminder of what we can achieve when we support one another.”
For Kavanagh, one of the most meaningful aspects of the event is its inclusivity. “It’s really special to take part in a race that welcomes runners of all levels,” she explains. “The Totalsports Women’s Race brings women together to promote an active lifestyle while having fun out on the roads.”
She also appreciates the event’s ongoing support for breast cancer awareness. “It’s fantastic that the event supports PinkDrive. It’s a great initiative that helps raise awareness and educate people on the importance of early detection,” she adds.
Looking ahead to race day, Kavanagh is eager to test herself. “I’m looking forward to a competitive and enjoyable morning out on the roads,” she says. “Durban usually delivers ideal running conditions this time of year, and with the flat and fast route, it should make for an exciting race.”
In closing, Kavanagh reflects on the empowering nature of the event: “The Totalsports Women’s Race empowers every woman taking part. It’s an opportunity to chase your personal goals while encouraging and uplifting others. It’s incredibly special to share the road with so many women who love running, and I hope young girls taking part will be inspired by the community around them. Whether you’re running, supporting, or simply soaking up the atmosphere – enjoy the experience and give it your best!”
“We are proud to welcome Tayla Kavanagh to the start line of the Totalsports Women’s Race in Durban – and even more so because she’ll be racing on home ground,” says Nikki Crous, Head of Marketing at Totalsports. “Tayla is an incredible ambassador for women in sport, and it’s fantastic to have her line up against a strong elite field. We encourage all Durban locals – even if you’re not participating – to come out and support her and the many other inspiring women on the day. While the elites will provide exciting racing, the event is also a celebration for every woman who runs or walks for fun, fitness, or purpose. It’s going to be an action-packed day filled with energy, unity, and support for a great cause through our partnership with PinkDrive.”
