The organisers of the Totalsports Women’s Race are excited to welcome 120 Endurocad athletes to the start line on Tuesday 09 August 2022 in celebration of National Women’s Day.
Established in 2013, Endurocad is a registered non-profit organisation that focuses on the advancement of athletic performance and education through various projects.
“Endurocad’s aim is to become the most proficient women’s empowerment and athlete development academy in Africa,” confirms Nolene Conrad, Endurocad Athletes Manager, and ambassador for the Young Women’s Empowerment Program. “We offer a full range of support in the form of expert coaches, learnerships, mentorship and bursaries, as we build athletes to not only become world class distance runners, but also well-rounded citizens that have a career and plan for life after sport.”
Endurocad’s Young Women’s Empowerment Program consists of learners from Macassar High, Apex High (Eersteriver), Malibu High, Stellenzicht High, Stellenbosch High, Bridge House High, Kayamandi High, Makapula High, Intlanganiso High, Lückhoff High, Rhenish Girls’ High and La Rochelle Girls High. To qualify to be part of the programme, each school is committed to ensuring that there are at least 10 young women (Grade 8-11) who participate in the program. Each young woman will participate in on-going workshops, skills development sessions and compete in athletic competitions.
“What better way to celebrate National Women’s Day than by participating in a women’s only race,” continues Conrad. “The Totalsports Women’s Race is both a celebration of running and it’s an opportunity for women to come out and spend the day with their friends. It’s an event that celebrates all women and we want all the young women to be exposed to this. Our goal is to contribute towards building a healthy and active society of empowered women in South Africa. Hopefully they will be inspired through this experience. Our athletes are looking forward to sharing the experience with their friends in celebration of sisterhood on National Women’s Day.”
Nolene Conrad started running at age 16 to overcome chronic asthma. She later went on to represent South Africa multiple times at international competitions. She’s a former gold label status athlete, a SA Marathon, 10km and 3000m Steeple Chase Champion and SA 2000m Steeple Chase record holder.
Alicia Mutangiri (15) from Lückhoff High school and Rickecia Smith (15) from Macassar High School are two learners from Endurocad’s Young Women’s Empowerment Program that will be seen in action at the Totalsports Women’s Race in 2022.
“I am excited and looking forward to the Totalsports Women’s Race,” says Mutangiri. “I am looking forward to the race mostly and meeting new people. My goal will be to run well while enjoying every moment.”
“I’m very excited about entering the Totalsports Women’s Race,” says Smith. “My goal is to finish my race with a good result.”
